Eighteen centimetres is the working middle of the range. Below about fifteen the note gets thin; above twenty-four you need both hands and a cushion. This sits where a bowl is genuinely usable — held flat on the palm, rimmed with the wooden end, struck with the suede.
"Seven metals" is the traditional description of the bronze used: copper and tin with small proportions of the others. The alloy matters less than the working — a hand-raised bowl of any decent bronze will out-sing a spun one every time.
