The photography on this site is openly licensed work found through Openverse and Wikimedia Commons — it is not our own product photography. Most of it is CC BY or CC BY-SA, which means the author and the licence have to travel with the picture. So here they are.

These are reference photographs, not the goods you will receive. They show the craft, the material or the place, and they were taken by other people. Ask us for photographs of the actual lot before you buy and we will send them the same working day. Product photography of our own stock is being made and will replace these.

Why it is done this way

A CC BY-SA licence is not a free-for-all. It lets anyone reuse the work, including commercially, on the condition that the author is credited and the licence is named. A site that quietly strips that attribution is in breach of the licence, whatever it paid (nothing) for the file.

So every image carries its author on this page and again in a line under the picture on the product page it appears on. If you are the author of anything here and something is wrong — a misspelt name, the wrong licence, or you would simply rather we did not use it — tell us and we will correct it or remove it.

What we do not do

We do not pass licensed reference photography off as our own product shots, and we do not photograph one grade and sell another. Where an image shows the craft rather than the specific item, the product page says so in plain words rather than in a footnote.
