About this product
Mithila painting comes out of the Janakpur region and was a wall-and-floor art long before it was ever put on paper. The conventions are strict: the outline is drawn first in a single continuous line, the ground is filled completely, and the figures are frontal.
Pigment is mineral and vegetable — lampblack, ochre, indigo, turmeric — bound with gum. It is stable but not lightfast in the way acrylic is, so hang it out of direct sun.
Ships flat between boards rather than rolled. Rolled paper arrives with a memory in it that never quite comes out.
How it was made

Shipping, duty & returns
Retail orders leave Kathmandu within two working days of payment clearing and are tracked throughout. Free over $150.00; a flat $24.00 below that.
Import duty and tax in your own country are not included and are payable by you. We declare goods at their real value.
Thirty days to return anything unused and in its original packaging. Food, tea, spices, honey and cosmetics are not returnable once opened, which is a food-safety position rather than a commercial one.
