About this product

Bhairav masks are made for festival use and as objects, and the carving conventions are fixed — the eyes, the teeth, the third eye, the crown of skulls all sit where they are supposed to sit.

Carved from a single block rather than assembled, then gessoed and painted. The paint is conventional mineral-pigment colours over a chalk ground.

Sold as a contemporary craft object. We do not represent it as a ritual mask that has been used, because it has not.

How it was made

Hand-carved from a single block, hand-painted — Bhaktapur.

Sourced from Bhaktapur carving workshop.

Wood Carving & Furniture — Bhaktapur. See the rest of this category.

Producer descriptions on this site are sourcing categories rather than named suppliers. Named-supplier disclosure is available to trade buyers under NDA — ask when you request a quote.

Care & keeping

Dust with a soft brush. Do not wipe the painted surface with anything damp.

Shipping, duty & returns

Retail orders leave Kathmandu within two working days of payment clearing and are tracked throughout. Free over $150.00; a flat $24.00 below that.

Import duty and tax in your own country are not included and are payable by you. We declare goods at their real value.

Thirty days to return anything unused and in its original packaging. Food, tea, spices, honey and cosmetics are not returnable once opened, which is a food-safety position rather than a commercial one.
