About this product

Churpi is made the way it has been made in the middle hills for centuries. Milk is soured with lime juice, the curd is pressed under weight for days, salted, smoked over a hearth and then dried until it is closer to hardwood than to cheese. Nobody set out to make a dog chew; the export market found it.

What that process leaves behind is a bar that is roughly 65 per cent protein, almost lactose-free, and hard enough that a dog has to soften it with saliva before any of it comes off. That is the point — the chew is slow, and the last stub can be microwaved for forty seconds to puff it into a crisp.

Ingredients, in full: yak and cow milk, lime juice, salt. There is nothing else to declare.

How it was made

Soured, pressed, smoked, air-dried — Kavrepalanchok / Ramechhap.

Sourced from Hill dairy co-operatives.

Himalayan Dog Chews — Kavre & Ramechhap. See the rest of this category.

Producer descriptions on this site are sourcing categories rather than named suppliers. Named-supplier disclosure is available to trade buyers under NDA — ask when you request a quote.

Care & keeping

Cool and dry. Two-year shelf life. Supervise the dog and take the stub away when it is small enough to swallow.

Shipping, duty & returns

Retail orders leave Kathmandu within two working days of payment clearing and are tracked throughout. Free over $150.00; a flat $24.00 below that.

Import duty and tax in your own country are not included and are payable by you. We declare goods at their real value.

Thirty days to return anything unused and in its original packaging. Food, tea, spices, honey and cosmetics are not returnable once opened, which is a food-safety position rather than a commercial one.
